It's snowing outside!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I took a personality test based on a link that was provided on my sister's blogs.

Paranoid: Low
Schizoid: Low
Schizotypal: Low
Antisocial: Low
Borderline: Low
Histrionic: Low
Narcissistic: Low
Avoidant: Low
Obsessive-Compulsive: Moderate

I'm not that suprised that I'm moderately obsessive compulsive, since most people in the medical profession are that way.

Long day today, started at 8:30 and ended at 3:30. There is so much information that we are expected to learn, but the renal/endocrine segment is now one of my favorite courses in medical school. The best part about today is that we learned about osmosis in space. My nickname isn't "osmosis" for nothing :)

Yikes! I havn't submitted a new blog for your perusal in such a long time. Unfortunately med students don't have as much free time as high school kids (right, sis ;-)

So to keep you up to speed here is what I did after my exams.

Friday (11/16/2001)

My friends and I went to a very charming Russian restaurant called Moscow on a Hill. Basically I was a drone over at Nu Sigma Nu, when Jon Gully showed up and said, "Do you want to go to IFIG (International Food Interest Group, FYI)?" I acquiesced, because I knew that Tseganesh S. has the best taste in food. Since there were 6 people in the frat, we decided that we could all squeeze into Jen Halverson's minivan. Anyway, I was glad that I didn't have to sit in the very back of the minivan (no seats).

There was a very lively atmosphere at MOAH with an accordion player to boot. Did you know that everything sounds Russian on an accordion? If you don't believe me, just play the theme song for the Godfather on that instrument. I had a great time there, despite the proclivity of medical students to resume medical shoptalk wherever they are. That is not a bad thing, because I usually succumb to medspeak myself but my brain was already mushy mushy from neuro. The menu was very intriguing with lots of meat choices. If you're there, I highly recommend the chicken Kolobok (my actual dinner). In a way it is sorta like the way mom makes chicken but with a more Russian flair to it. However, the best part of the evening was the desserts. I love desserts, but I had a tough time describing my ideal dessert to Tseganesh. It is sorta fluffy, but not in a cream puff sorta way, not too sweet, not choclatey, maybe a tad vanillaesque, small and delicate like Roseann's desserts at CMDA, flaky probably is a better word to describe it, petite but flavorful, strawberries are good, not creamy, although cream puffs are good. You get the picture. In the end, it was well worth the dough (sorry for then pun).

Saturday (11/17/2001)

"It's a beautiful day," exclaimed U2. How true, how true considering that God has blessed Minnesotans by giving us a temporary respite from the blustering snow. I had to go to a wedding at 2, but I didn't feel like studying so I ended up going to the Weissman (an avant garde museum on campus). Although the museum is funky looking, it actually grows on you especially after you see the sunset reflecting its radiant rays on this postmodern's dream house. My favorite artwook in the place is the infinite chickens landscape. OK, I'm making the title up, but you'll definitely agree with me that the title aptly captures the essence of the picture. My next favorite piece is not displayed in the museum, but in one of the meeting rooms. Those are the sketches the Frank Gehry made for the architect. I'm not an artist by any standards, but I definitely could make a better looking scribble. What is art? That is the question that has always plagued me since I dropped my art history class in college. I don't know. What it beauty? I will simply resort to Keats' retort, "Beauty is truth. Truth beauty. That is all you know on earth, and all you need to know."

I went to Young Ae and Oleg's wedding later that afternoon. They are two people I know from church who happen to be very smart math people. It was a very lovely wedding with pastor Sanny officiating. It was a simple wedding, but it was also a very meaningful wedding. My favorite part of the wedding was when the bride and groom's friends started praying for the couple. The best marriage is always under the LordSHIP of Jesus Christ.

Thanksgiving (11/22/01)

Out of all the holidays in the year, Thanksgiving is probably one of my favorites because it is a time where you are surrounded by family. I do miss my family a lot, but I'm very grateful to have developed friends here. This year, I spent Thanksgiving over with J.R. and Becka Gieseke's family. I know both of them from church and they are really awesome people to be around. We went over to St. Michael's which is a rapidly growing suburb west of the cities. On our way there, we passed by Maple Grove which is the future site of Krispy Kreme donuts. Unfortunately I just learned that the store has not been built yet, but will open sometime in the spring. There I had some really groovy Turkey, mashed potatoes, fruit salad, + White CASTLE! Ok, I was forewarned by Becka not to eat it, but I did anyway. It just made me miss In N' Out all the more. So sis, please, oh please, take me to In N' Out when I get back. The rest of the meal was delicious and I had an unabridged story about Becka's adventure with her passport. The moral of the story: Search and Ye shall Find. After our Thanksgiving meal, I went back to Becka's house where we played some Bible Trivia. For example, How did God clean the oceans?

A: With Tide :)

I'm embarrassed, since as a PK I should have been able to answer that one with ease. P.S.: If you want to hear a bad joke, just go to a pastor.
Dad, I'm just kidding!!!!!!

Amy Clark (Becka's other roommate) came back and made sort of cranberry dessert. If you've read this far already, I'm addicted to desserts but alas I had to go home.

Saturday (11/24/2001)

I was supposed to be studying today, but I didn't get as much as I would have liked. The fact that Minnesota beat Wisconsin in football absolutely made my day. After the game, I saw Nightmare before Christmas then I studied a little bit more. Then I decided that I had to catch up on email and write some more blogs.

Good night!

John

Just finished my neuro and psyche pathophys exams. It was probably the hardest exam that I took in medical school (neuro anyway), but I believe that it was one of the fairer exams too. Every year Dr. Day writes new test questions, so it was nice not to see any duplication on the exam. After the test I still had the adrenalin rush from taking the test, but I got to spend some quality time with John Sanny, my pastor at Stadium Village Church. He is trying to recruit people to go to the Jamaica mission trip, so if you're interested just come over to Moos Tower on Wed-Friday for a brochure.

Krispy Kreme is opening a new store in Maple Grove (30 minutes away)! I am tempted to go there, however they did not post the location of the store on Krispy Kreme's website. Out of all the donut shops out there, my favorite one has got to be Donut Man's strawberry glazed donuts. Yummy .... It is one of the rituals that I eat In N' Out burgers then head over to donut man every time I get back to So. Cal.

Gonna burn some Chris Rice CD's now,

John

Hi there cyberspace!

I kinda got hooked after reading my sister's uproariously funny blogs. Furthermore, I need a creative outlet from memorizing a gazillion facts about the effect of Amantadine on dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra. You see I have an exam coming up, but that hasn't deterred me from creating a blog.

More to come ... By the way, don't ask me why I named my website jardin. First of all it doesn't mean noisy jar. Second the "n" is silent, but don't come up to me and say "jar-dee." Otherwise I won't be your friend anymore.

Peace,

John
